“Hepatitis Awareness Day” celebrated at Tim Harmon Run at Fairfax County Government Center; Triathlon Trial Lawyer Doug Landau to race once again

speech urging residents to increase their awareness of Hepatitis C and its impact on the health of the community. At ABRAMS LANDAU we have won disability cases for clients who have Hepatitis C. Hepatitis C is the most prevalent liver disease in the United States. It is estimated that 35,000 people are infected with this virus each year. There is currently no vaccine for the Hepatitis C virus (HCV) and medical treatment is limited and sometimes ineffective. Additional research for the treatment of and eventual cure for HCV is essential and prevention efforts are vital for a community response to this epidemic.

Over the years, the proceeds of the race have exceeded $100,000. The funds go to non-profit organizations which support substance abuse and hepatitis research, treatment, advocacy, support and education. For more information on Hepatitis C, you can contact the Virginia Hepatitis C hotline at 800-533-4148 or visit the Hepatitis Foundation Web site.

hepatitis virus is usually carried by blood with the exception of Hepatitis A virus which can be acquired through contaminated food. I am particulary concerned about the local barbershop who does not properly sterilize the hair cutting tools and shaving tools. Razor blades which come in contact with infected blood can transmit the virus in the next customer.

    Hi
Let me know when you do another event. I am a 50-year-old Triathlete living in NYC from the DC area. I’ve lived with Hep C for the last 25 years. I am healthier and feel better than in my 20’s. Between diet and training I actually win races in my age group. I will win the race against Hep C!

      Terri,

Thanks for your comment. You are an inspiration to me and my clients. I will be racing in NYC again on Sunday, November 22nd with my sister in Central Park, in the NYRRC 4 miler. Let me know if you will be there. I also hop to compete Thanksgiving Day on the other side of the Hudson River, as I have the last several years. I am contemplating doing the NJ State 8km Championship race (Ashenfelter Classic) or perhaps a 5km. closer to my family members’ homes in Bergen County. Remember, “50 is the new 30.” You can follow my racing and sports related charity work at TheAthletesLawyer site. Good luck at the races. doug
