What happens if you are injured in a car accident in which your driver’s side door was smashed, but the side impact airbags did not deploy?
According to Herndon car accident lawyer Doug Landau, at certain speeds and angles, air bags will not deploy.  “I myself was struck by a drunk driver who nearly totaled my Volvo!  But because of the angle of this high-speed crash, my air bags did not explode,” recalls Doug. “Interestingly enough, sometimes the burns from the airbag propellant can be worse than other injuries sustained in a crash. Sometimes clients need to treat for these facial burns after the air bags save them from frontal skull impact and traumatic brain injury.”
If there is ever a question as to whether or not a car’s air bags should have exploded in a crash, Landau suggests you check with the dealer who sold you the car to see if the vehicle’s impact protection system was working properly. If not, there may be a separate claim for a defective safety product.  If you or someone you know has been involved in a car accident, injured and missing time from work, and there are questions as to what laws apply, email or call Abrams Landau, Ltd. at once (703-796-9555).
