the severed limb, and after an 18 hours surgery at INOVA Fairfax Hospital, the arm was successfully re-attached. Small motors in the cast kept the fingers moving so that there would be little atrophy and loss of range of motion. Landau adds, “Advances in medicine helped Alex keep his arm and this new transplant surgery may enable our brave soldiers to regain some of what they have lost in the service of our country.”
