Falls for elderly clients of the ABRAMS LANDAU law firm often cause permanent injury.  Frequently these falls prove to be fatal to older members of society.  Even our younger workers compensation and Social Security Disability clients encounter broken bones and long-term therapy after falling from hospital or nursing home beds.  Elder injury lawyer Doug Landau has become aware of a verdict out of the Blacksburg Virginia area, where a jury found a Montgomery County nursing home liable for a patient’s fall from her bed.  The Plaintiff was a non-ambulatory 91-year-old patient.  Confined to her bed, the plaintiff was also a candidate for hospice care. While she was a patient at defendants’ facility, she fell from her bed onto the floor and was injured.  Decedent died two months later of unrelated causes.  Plaintiff alleged that, as a result of defendant’s negligence, decedent suffered a non-displaced left femur fracture and a forehead laceration. The laceration required 10 sutures.  The Defendant admitted negligence for decedent’s fall, but disputed the extent of damages claimed by plaintiff.  A Montgomery County jury awarded plaintiff $300,000 in damages.
