Summer Jobs for Teens

In today’s economy, many of the jobs traditionally considered perfect for a student on summer break will be hard to find, and even harder to get.  College and high school students cannot afford to wait until the days before summer to start looking for that summer job.  Parents, urge your children to start the summer job hunt NOW, before all of the jobs are gone and it is too late!

Many industries rely upon students for summer help.  Here are some ideas you can “gently suggest” to your kids:

  • Server —  restaurants, banquet halls, caterers, ice cream or yogurt shops, etc.
  • Resort / beach town seasonal help — stores, hotels, parks, beaches, etc.
  • Summer camp counselor — day camp or overnight
  • Lifeguard — pool, park, rec center, gym, beach, etc.
  • Seasonal outdoor worker — farm,  landscaping company, nursery, etc.
  • Summer tutor
  • Child care provider — in-home nanny, daycare provider, gym child care center
  • Retail sales clerk or counter help — stores in malls, outlet centers, strip malls, etc.
  • Office temp — consider going through an agency
  • Amusement park worker
  • Internship

Whatever the student’s interests, the important thing is to start the search NOW!  Good luck!
