Having tried cases for the Florida State Attorney’s Office, the recent news of a local chiropractor being charged with steroid possession caught the eye of athlete’s Lawyer Doug Landau. The state attorney’s office in Polk County, Florida said Dr. Douglas Owen Nagel of Reston was sentenced to three years of probation, 200 hours of community service and continued drug counseling after pleading guilty to attempted possession of a controlled substance. In addition, the use of anabolic steroids is dangerous, is considered cheating and against the rules of nearly every single sport. Steroids for burn victims, disabled workers with back and spine injuries and victims of traumatic injury may benefit from epidural steroid injections and other steroid treatment, but the abuse of anabolic steroids is something that Triathlon Trial Lawyer Doug Landau has been against since he first studied their effect on the human body in graduate school in the 1980s.

According to the Fairfax Times, Florida authorities alleged the Sterling Chiropractor purchased anabolic steroids for at least a year from a Lakeland, Florida man. Nagel said he worked with professional athletes in the Washington area and he had boasted about supplying steroids to the Washington Nationals and Washington Capitals. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said it had no evidence Nagel had provided any steroids to any professional athletes. Dr. Nagel owns CHHC Sports Medicine, which has offices in Arlington and Sterling. Dr. Nagel’s website at one time claimed he was the Capitals’ team chiropractor. Capitals media relations director Nate Ewell said in March that Dr. Nagel was not affiliated with the Washington Capitals and never was the “team chiropractor.” However, Ewell said Dr. Nagel has seen some Capitals players for standard, routine chiropractic services.
