The Rockets Landing Triathlon is Richmond MultiSports signature event. The several events (Duathlon, Triathlon, Aquathon, AquaBike) are located in historic downtown Richmond, Virginia and is the fifth triathlon in the Richmond Multisports series. One of the treats for all athletes is the wonderful fare served up by the smiling staff of the PF Chang’s Restaurant. Plus, you gotta like a race sponsor who “walks the walk” as well as “ponies up the food.” The manager of the P.F.Chang’s Restaurant is doing the race as well as working pre-registration for the Rocketts Landing races at Richmonds “3 Sports” triathlon store on River Road. Great food, music and race support are a hallmark of this event. My wife and I especially liked the “shower tent” and “attendants” after racing in the blistering heat.

The Rocketts Tri is the 2011 USA Triathlon Mid-Atlantic Region Club Championship with a $5,250 prize purse and benefits Neighborhood Resource Center in Fulton Hill. Participants can race and party to make a difference for low income families in Richmond’s east end and the kids that live there. The NRC strengthens individuals and communities by providing opportunities for neighbors to build relationships, access resources, and develop the skills to enhance their lives and determine the fate of the community. The Neighborhood Resource Center is about neighbors working together to reach personal and community goals.

According to the race web site, “This event offers a renowned course that canvasses the city’s culture and history from urban panoramas to rolling pastoral landscapes. The bike course heads east along very beautiful rolling rural hills, no need to go train in the mountains! The pinnacle of the bike course comes as you crest the final leg, you will be whisked away by the stunning view of Richmond’s downtown skyline as you head back down to Rocketts Village. [the] run course is packed with Richmond history. The first mile you will run on the Virginia Capital Trail, then traverse through the Canal Walk, over the 14th Street bridge, hit the historic flood wall along the river and finally the summit at a river overlook…nothing like it! Rocketts Tri is staged at Rocketts Landing Village, Richmond’s newest cultural hub. Voted Richmond’s Best New Neighborhood by Richmond Magazine readers four years in a row, the Village features brand new river front restaurants, boating and spectacular views of the city skyline. Rocketts Tri holds a festive post-race party which includes a band, snow cones, beer, wine and delicious food prepared by P.F Chang’s!
