For Airline Employees – “Loose Lips Sink Ships” and Injury Claims

Flight attendants, pilots & other airline employees do not want to their injury or workers comp claims “haunted” by their social media postings. (N.B. Herndon lawyer Doug Landau was a volunteer “Zombie” at a local haunted house – details at the ABRAMS LANDAU Giving Page on FaceBook)
Airline flight attendants and pilots with long layovers may turn to “share” their locations, adventures and thoughts on their favorite forms of Social Media. Like the rest of us, they cannot resist posting the details of a wild vacation on their Facebook page, Twitter, MySpace or Blog. They tweet from the airport lounge as they await their next flight, shuttle bus transfer or relax in a hotel away from home. They may blog about a time when they slipped and fell at work, or sustained a sports injury during a weekend touch football game or, injured themselves at home.
Be careful. Do not think that what you post is private and only available to your friends or followers.
Doug Landau of the Herndon law firm ABRAMS LANDAU, Ltd., recommends caution when posting online via social media outlets. Reminding us that defense lawyers and adjusters are looking for adverse evidence anywhere they can find it, Landau says, “If you post it, they will find it. Before you post something, pretend that opposing counsel is looking at your profile and reading everything you post. Now, are you sure you want to write that? ”
Landau speaks from experience. He and his injury team at ABRAMS LANDAU have seen defense counsel requests, in litigation discovery, for all of his client’s internet account passwords! Do not let “loose lips sink ships!” Your musings to your “online friends” may lead to the sinking of your on the job accident claim or personal injury case. If you or someone you know has been involved in an airport accident or incident involving an airplane and there are questions as to what laws apply, call or email us at ABRAMS LANDAU, Ltd.
