Bikers traveling through Herndon will finally be able to stop at a bike shop within sight of the W&OD Trail.  With the Reston Bike Club meeting in the Herndon Municipal parking lot for group rides, the Sport & Health Supersprint Triathlon races finish at the caboose and cyclists coming to “Friday Night Live” and other concerts on the Town Green, Herndon biker lawyer Doug Landau has long advocated for a bike shop in the downtown “Historic District” because of its proximity to the W&OD paved and cinder Trails.

The new bike shop is Green Lizard Cycling (“GLC”), and unlike most shops for cyclists, GLC will also have a coffee bar, tables to sit outside and relax, Computrainer classes with Hefler Performance Coaching and BikeFit and other capabilities.  Herndon triathlete and lawyer Doug Landau got the “50-cent” tour and saw the industrious crew making preparations for their March opening.  Store owner Dave Meyer will have road, hybrid, mountain, and kids bikes for sale and there is also a plan to rent bikes.

According to Landau, “the epicenter of cycling in the Historic District of Herndon is shifting from the pink bank building (next door to Great Harvest Bakery – home of the “Free Samples” for Cyclists of all ages !) which is currently home to HPC, to the old Nachman Building, where they will occupy the rear and the retail bike store the front of the premises.”  HPC is where Pierre Pelletier and Sue Hefler conduct their CompuTrainer classes, VO2 Max Testing and other services for cyclists. Landau has been taking indoor cycling classes at Hefler Performance Coaching for the last several years, and has noticed increased endurance, strength and wattage when he rides outdoors in the the Spring.  The Computrainer classes, bike fittings, coffee bar and proximity to Great Harvest should enable this new downtown addition to have year-round business and bring new visitors into the “Historic District” of Herndon.
