When Set Up Events changed its name to “Kinetic Multisports,”\u00a0 got a new logo, and acquired other area races, Mid-Atlantic triathletes wondered if they would keep the popular\u00a0 “Virginia-Maryland Triathlon Super Series.”\u00a0 Kinetic Multisports<\/a> announced that there would be a series in 2018 and that all races produced by their team and hosted on their website would be scored for Series points. Now with 50 races in five states, there are more racing options for more athletes to win a spot on the “Kinetic Cup!”<\/p>\n

Racers who competed in a minimum of five scored events in the same category were eligible for series awards (Novices and Relays were not scored). New in 2018, the Aquabike and Duathlon had overall and masters overall scoring.\u00a0 The five highest scores in the series were counted together. There is a column in the computerized standings that is called \u201ccount”\u2014that number is the number of scored events that person competed in. Racers were required to compete in at least five Kinetic Multisports events to qualify for the Kinetic Cup series awards. Some dedicated athletes (and several of Doug Landau’s crazier friends) completed two races in a single weekend! The Duathlon and Aquabike were scored with awards going to the top five overall and top five masters overall in these categories, but they did not count towards the triathlon category.<\/p>\n

Attorney Doug Landau<\/a> of the Herndon, Virginia law firm Abrams Landau, Ltd.<\/a> finished 2nd out of 283 in his division, while his wife, Melissa Landau, cracked the top 10 in her category. Landau had been in 4th place after five races, but his 6th race podium finish gave him the points needed to move up two more spots in the standings. To give you an idea of the competition in this Series, first place in Landau’s group did 16 races, while 3rd place did 13 events. Lawyer Landau only did six races in the Series this season. A competitor’s best five races count toward the Series’ scoring. Landau’s times in many races would have won many of the younger age groups.<\/p>\n

The winner of his category was Don White, from North Carolina, who had an outstanding year. What’s even more remarkable about White is the fact that he travels very far for many of these events and also works as a member of the Kinetic Multisports team, getting up at “O Dark Stupid” to help set up the venue, do registration, packet pick-up and other tasks. And yet, with all these duties, Don is able to compete for age group, Masters and even overall prizes! He is truly a terrific competitor, and a triathlete who has been in the sport longer than lawyer Landau! After the Series was over, Landau noted, “One of the things I enjoy about the Kinetic Multisports races and Series is the camaraderie, even amongst competitors, and how we push each other to be our best. I look forward to the 2019 racing season, and to perhaps giving Don a run for his money!”<\/p>\n
