In welcome news for cyclists, runners, and others using the trail along the Fairfax County Parkway, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has begun a project to improve the trail’s ride, safety, and durability.\u00a0 Starting at Route 7 (Leesburg Pike), going southbound until Route 29 (Lee Highway), asphalt will be patched, cracks will be sealed, and ADA ramps will be installed and repaired.<\/p>\n

There will be some inconvenience to trail users during the project, which is expected to run through the end of 2014.\u00a0 Between the hours of 9:00 am and 3:00pm, Monday through Friday, sections of the trail may be closed.\u00a0 But the plan is to have posted signs, complete with maps of alternate trail routes and Quick Response (QR) codes that can be scanned into a smart phone to acquire more information about the project.\u00a0 Pretty cool, huh?<\/p>\n

Herndon lawyer Doug Landau, himself an avid user of the trails near his home and office, is glad for the community that this trail is being given the attention it deserves.\u00a0 “The trail along Fairfax County Parkway is always busy,” says Landau.\u00a0 “I see runners, cyclists, and walkers — young and old — using the trail frequently.\u00a0 A safe, well-maintained trail system improves the quality of life for all those living and working in Fairfax County.”<\/p>\n
