Almost 1000 runners participated in last weekend’s Richmond Rox races. With competitors able to warm up inside the Richmond Convention Center and perfectly unseasonable (60 degree) weather, the Marathon’s 10:00 start and 10 km 15 minutes later allowed everyone to enjoy some warmer running. The USATF certified downtown and James River view courses were challenging. With Richmond Multisports<\/a>‘ expanded packet pickup and sponsor expo the day before, runners could really enjoy the weekend’s festivities.<\/p>\n

Registration included post-race access to The Virginia Wine Expo. There was a “Beer Lovers Only” station was also added. Catered hot soups inside the Convention Center included seafood crab bisque or veggie chili with bagels. The entry into the Sunday Walk-Around Grand Tasting (part of the Virginia Wine Expo) is included in the entry fee. The Walk-Around Grand Tasting, which is the most popular event at the Expo, included a commemorative crystal wine glass and the opportunity to taste and buy 450 bottles of Virginia wine. This was the perfect way to celebrate the race, spend time with family and friends and take home some delicious Virginia wine. Unlimited tastings were allowed for all racers that did not opt out of the wine expo (and were over 21).<\/p>\n

The charitable beneficiary was Sportable<\/a>, a local non – profit that helps fund physically challenged athletes in wheel chairs that actually compete in running events, triathlons, and many other sports events.
