Cyclists who share the roadways with motorists naturally want some assurance that drivers are operating their vehicles in a safe manner.\u00a0 Part of that assurance can come in the knowledge that unsafe motorists will be held accountable for their actions.<\/p>\n

Herndon bike accident attorney Doug Landau was disturbed to read in the July issue of the Potomac Pedalers<\/a> newsletter an article about an accident involving a motorist striking and fatally injuring a cyclist in Fauquier County.\u00a0 The gist of the article is that the Virginia legislature, in its most recent session, failed to pass numerous bills designed to improve the safety of cyclists in the Commonwealth.<\/p>\n

Potomac Pedalers is encouraging citizens to contact the Fauquier Commonwealth Attorney — James Fisher — at:\u00a0james.fisher@fauquiercounty.gov<\/a> to implore him to consider serious charges against a driver in cases where a preventable accident is caused by the driver of an automobile resulting in injury or death to a cyclist.<\/p>\n

An avid cyclist himself, lawyer Landau agrees wholeheartedly that when avoidable death and injury is caused by the unsafe decisions and actions of a car or truck driver, serious legal consequences should ensue.<\/p>\n
