During the first quarter of 2013, we can expect to get some more details about Fairfax County\u2019s Master Bike Plan<\/a> when the county\u2019s Bicycle Program division will make its presentation to the Planning Commission.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs the father of four kids, I can think of many times when we had fewer cars than drivers at the Landau home.\u00a0 On those busy mornings, I would gladly volunteer to give up a car and take my bike to work. Bike lanes \u2013 or at least wider shoulders \u2013 would make it safer and more appealing for more folks to do the same, even without the pleas from their teenage kids to \u2018borrow the car\u2019!\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Whether or not a bike lane is built is determined by Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and takes into account proximity to high-density housing and employment, speed, and rate of traffic any given road.<\/p>\n

A stickler for safety, Doug is a firm believer that all bikers need to be safe by wearing a helmet and reflective clothing, refraining from using headphones while riding, and paying close attention to drivers who may not see a cyclist coming.<\/p>\n
