Athletes competing in the National Age Group Championships and World Triathlon Championship Qualifiers learned last month, USA Triathlon has selected Minerva Health Manager<\/a> to help athletes manage Personal Health Records. As USA Triathlon’s exclusive and official personal health record manager, Minerva Health Manager will provide athletes with an easy-to-use software allowing them to enter their personal health records on their computer and also store them on a lightweight USA Triathlon wristband flash drive that can be worn during training and racing. The personal health records stored on the flash drive can be accessed using any computer with a USB port \u0096 without the need of the Internet \u0096 providing instant access by first responders in an emergency situation, as well as an athlete’s doctors and other healthcare providers during regular office visits. Personal Health Records on the flash drive can also be secured with password protection.<\/p>\n

Do USA Triathlon members really need Minerva Health Manager? Consider that someone visits an emergency room every 4 seconds, and that almost 200,000 people die each year in the U.S. as a result of medical errors, making it the 3rd leading cause of death. Even a well-conditioned athlete can suddenly be in a life-threatening situation due to a serious accident or a pre-existing health condition.<\/p>\n

“Unfortunately, you can’t always rely on our country’s healthcare system to have all pertinent health information about you in order to provide an accurate diagnosis or treatment. Anyone who has been in an emergency room likely has memories of all of the paperwork and chaos,” said Dan Schiavello, President of Minerva Health Technologies. “Imagine having all of your personal health records stored on a lightweight wristband or tiny flash drive\u0097as small as a house key.” The same personal health record software that is being used by USA Triathlon athletes is now available to consumers throughout the U.S. and can help them avoid becoming another statistic.
