The emergency first responders at the National Duathlon Festival were equipped with all terrain medically equipped bikes to help bicycle crash victims and other injured athletes <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Usually it is just the bike racers on two wheels in local duathlons, time trials, century rides, triathlons, criterium events and pelotons. However, at some bike and multipart race venues, there are very mobile medical rescue workers who ride specially equipped bicycles, just like some local police and law enforcement departments use. The bikes shown belong to the team of emergency medical personnel who covered the downtown Richmond, Virginia USAT Duathlon National Championship<\/a> races.<\/p>\n

Because some of the race courses are “off road” and on closed street, biker medics can get to a cyclist after a crash or injured runner quickly in order to render immediate first aid. Triathlon Trial Lawyer Doug Landau saw several bikers skidding on the wet pavement at high speed and saw several crashes and injuries. When he competed at Nationals in Richmond two years ago, the Herndon Reston and Sterling injury lawyer saw a friend wipe out on a hairpin turn, crashing her bike, and being taken out of the race in a police cruiser. This year the experienced sports injury and disability advocate saw fewer serious crashes, but still counted many bikers walking their bikes back to the start due to flats, crashes, and other equipment failures and defects. Doug Landau thanks and applauds these two-wheeled emergency medical responders, and hopes that they will be present at all major USAT<\/a> multisport competitions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
