Expanded routes, larger jets and future Metro service to Washington Dulles International Airport (“IAD”) will continue to provide economic stimuli to the Northern Virginia Counties of Loudoun and Fairfax, according to Herndon lawyer Doug Landau<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The first time I went to Dulles International Airport (“IAD”), it was to pick up my father, who was coming to Washington, D.C. as a member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (“ATLA”) Superfund Study Commission, it seemed as though I was the only one in the Terminal ! That was 1982. Since then, it has grown in size, the number of travelers passing through its iconic “winged” design and flight volume. However, even in the 1980s, it did not make sense to me that the Metro ended in Vienna and that unlike National Airport, there was no train service to Dulles.<\/p>\n

Now, as I drive on I-66, I see the 23-mile extension of the Washington Metro Rail System that will be linking the capital by rail to Dulles. Another goal of the Silver Line is to make Tysons Corner, one of the Northern Virginia region\u2019s biggest employment hubs, accessible by train. The Silver Line is one of the largest transportation projects in the country and is expected to cost nearly $6 billion when finished. Phase I of the project is nearly complete, and Phase 2 is under construction. According to Virginia Business<\/a>,\u00a0the entire project is expected to be wrapped up and running by the end of the decade.<\/p>\n

Washington Dulles International Airport, on the border of Loudoun and Fairfax Counties, is a key hub for airports throughout Virginia, with connections all over the world. The Silver Line is also expected to be an economic boon for Northern Virginia’s Fairfax and Loudoun Counties. Its evolution from a little used airport to major international hub and regional employer has been impressive. With the increase in aircraft and passenger volume comes the need to consider airport security and safety. Will the Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority (“MWAA”) be ready for regular train service ? Will train service mean easier access for motorists ? Less reliance on the taxi service, less traffic on I-66 and the Dulles Toll Road (with a reduction in pollution) are all good things in my book. There may be a silver lining in the Silver Line’s completion to Dulles Airport, connecting the Nation’s Capitol with a major international hub for air travelers.<\/p>\n
