In a recent Florida case, a man was killed when the 11-foot tall bus he was riding at Miami International Airport struck an 8-foot-6-inch overpass.\u00a0 The victim\u2019s family is suing the bus driver and the owner\/operator of the bus, citing negligence on the part of both the driver and the company.\u00a0 Read more about the case in an article<\/a> published in the Sacramento Bee.<\/p>\n

Herndon area Airport Accident Attorney Doug Landau says this is a clear example of a common carrier case.\u00a0 A common carrier is an <\/em>individual or business that advertises to the public that it is available for hire to transport people or property in exchange for a fee.\u00a0 As Doug explained in an earlier post<\/a> , this is important because common carriers are held to a higher standard when it comes to protecting the public.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn a case like this, both the driver and the bus company had a responsibility to keep the passengers safe,\u201d says Doug. \u201cThe driver was obligated to be alert and in control of his vehicle, and the bus company had a duty to ensure that its employees were qualified and properly trained to drive a bus.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
