Herndon Turkey Trot – Run on the Grass LEGALLY !

ground up into small pieces, and used to make basketball courts, track fields, playgrounds, floor tiles, new shoes and apparel. It is a great way to get rid of all those old sneakers you have laying around and to “go green” by recycling. Bring one pair or bring ten!

The Herndon Community Center, which will be collecting stinky, used athletic shoes until November 21st, notes that when recycling your shoes, please remember:

  • We can only recycle athletic shoes (running shoes, sneakers, etc.)
  • We accept all brands of shoes
  • No shoes containing metal
  • No cleats or dress shoes
  • No wet or damp shoes
  • No sandals or flip-flops

Doug Landau will be participating with friends again this year, as well as donating shoes and food. The Triathlon Trial Lawyer is also exploring bringing back another unique Herndon Community Center event back – the Aquathon, in the memory of his friend, Great Harvest bakery owner and neighbor Jack Corkey, who passed away last winter. The last running event Doug participated in with Jack was the Herndon Turkey Trot, and Corkey and Landau laughed themselves silly during the “Swim-Run in the water” event held at the Ferndale aquatic complex in the 1990s. Hopefully the Town will not have too much “red tape,” and this fun event for all ages and sizes will return to Herndon Virginia in February. Stay tuned !
