Airports, stores, gas stations, parking lots and other places where people get hurt have tape recordings of what happens on their “turf.” These tapes (or CDs, DVDs, etc.) often provide strong evidence of what really happened when someone gets hurt or attacked. Virginia “Super Lawyer” Doug Landau secured the actual Airport DVD showing the Defendant Security Supervisor taking his client to a remote place where she was sexually assaulted later that night ! (See 10/29/07 entry “Sexual assault by an airport security supervisor”)
In another case that came to Herndon personal injury lawyer Doug Landau, his client was struck by a “hit and run” driver. This nurse was leaving Alexandria Hospital after her shift and woke up in the roadway in front of the staff parking lot with her legs shattered. Doug Landau recalled that there were surveillance cameras (more…)

What facts are important to win a Disability Income claim ? Are there “magic words” or phrases that the Judges look for ? Herndon lawyer Doug Landau represents disabled workers before the Federal Social Security Administration has won these cases and Hearings over the last 20 years by showing the following on behalf of the clients of ABRAMS LANDAU, Ltd. :
1. The claimant has disabling impairments.

Herndon Lawyer Doug Landau chalked up another win on behalf of a school cook who contracted breathing difficulties because of her work for a Prince William County middle school. The claim was denied by the Third Party Administrator (“TPA”) for the School Board. The TPA alleged that our client could have breathed in particles in her own kitchen and that her exposures at home could have been the cause of her medical condition.
While many experienced workers compensation lawyers are not equipped to competently represent people with industrial illnesses, repetitive trauma and toxic chemical exposures, at ABRAMS LANDAU, Ltd., we have take on some difficult claims on behalf of remarkable people who get hurt simply doing their jobs the best way they know how. Occupational Disease cases are more difficult and expensive to try as Virginia law has stricter requirements for these cases. Accidental injury claims need to prove a “sudden accidental injury causing a change in the body.” Occupational disease cases require significantly more evidence.
Virginia Trial Lawyer Landau engaged the services of pulmonary and critical care specialists in Fauquier County in order to support the case on behalf of a baker who had faithfully worked for the school system for 24 years ! She needed medical attention for her damaged lungs. (more…)

Insurance companies routinely pressure people into giving taped or written statements shortly after an accident. Insurance claims adjusters know that injured victims are at their most vulnerable immediately after an accident. They know that when the injured person is not represented, in pain, on strong medications, confused and unsure of their legal rights, that all the cards are stacked in the insurance company’s favor.
Remember –
ANYTHING YOU SAY WILL BE USED AGAINST YOU !
In some states, the insurance company DOES NOT NEED YOUR PERMISSION (more…)

Doug Landau has recently concluded a number of dog bite and dog attack cases. Most of these dog bite cases involve young children. Every 40 seconds, someone in the United States seeks medical attention for a dog-bite related injury.
We currently have cases pending in Connecticut, New Jersey and Virginia. We have represented Postal Workers, Police Officers, FedEx Deliverymen, Real Estate Saleswomen and grandmothers in dog attack cases. Dog attacks cause 4.5 million injuries each year; 800,000 of those injuries require medical atttention. Sometime they are more serious than just requiring medical attention. Last year, a Spotsylvania County, Virginia woman was sentenced to three years in prison for involuntary manslaughter after her three pet Pit Bull Dogs mauled an 82-year-old neighbor to death.
Because of their trusting nature, inexperience and perhaps small size, children seem particularly at risk for thesse dangerous dog attacks. Dog bites pose a greater health risk for children than mumps, measles, and whooping cough combined. Herndon Virginia personal injury lawyer Doug Landau of ABRAMS LANDAU, Ltd., shows you what elements are important for settling a case with the Homeowners Insurance Company in these premises liability cases where a dog attacks a child:

Our client was a guest at one of the Inns at Colonial Williamsburg. He went into bathroom in his hotel room and turned on the heatlamp. This was the original unit that was installed in the hotel in 1983. He sat down on the toilet. The hotel heat lamp heated to a critical point, broke and began to drip molten plastic and metal fragments onto our client’s back. These heated elements ignited his shirt and our client was engulfed in flames. The flames and smoke set off the room’s smoke alarm system. Plaintiff sustained 1st, 2nd and 3rd degree burns on 15-20% of his body. We brought suit to recover for his injuries in what is known as a premises liability case.*
A substantial settlement was achieved with the Inn’s owners without the need for trial. (more…)
